Overview

If you already have an agent that does part of the work you need, you can put it to use inside another agent. This article shows you how, and gives a few tips to keep your agents easy to reuse. You need at least one other agent built before you start. If you have not built one yet, see Creating, running, and managing agents.

How it works

Each agent is built for one purpose. For example, one agent may research a topic, and another agent may prepare a weekly report. Sometimes one of your steps can already be done by another agent that you have built. In that case, you do not need to write the step again. You can add the other agent to the step. WorkLLM will then run that agent for the step, instead of using the step’s own instructions. For example, you may have a research agent. You can attach it to the research step of your weekly report agent.

When to use it:

Use it when the same piece of work is needed in more than one agent. A research agent, for example, can feed your weekly report agent today and another agent later. You build it once and attach it wherever you need it.

To add an agent to a step:

  1. Open the agent.
  2. Select the step.
  3. Click the + icon.
  4. Choose the agent you want to attach.
  5. Save your changes.
The step will now be run by the attached agent. Tips:
  • Keep each agent focused on one purpose. This makes it easy to reuse in other agents.
  • Give each agent a clear name, so you can find it quickly when you attach it.
  • After saving, run a test to confirm that the step works as you expect.

Frequently asked questions

  • What does it mean to use another agent inside a step?
It means the step is done by an agent you have already built, instead of by instructions written in the step itself.
  • Do I still need to write instructions for that step?
No. WorkLLM runs the attached agent for the step, instead of using the step’s own instructions.
  • I only have one agent. Can I still use this?
You need at least one other agent to attach. Build it first, then attach it to the step. See Creating, running, and managing agents.
  • How do I make my agents easy to attach?
Give each agent one clear purpose and a clear name. A focused agent is easy to reuse, and a clear name helps you find it quickly in the list.
  • How do I check that the attached agent works?
Save your changes and run a test. See Testing an agent before turning on automation in Creating, running, and managing agents.
